Teachers will be Teachers (PART 1)

Schools  are officially out and students as well as teachers are on ‘holidays’.

Yet, how many of us teacher folk are actually vacationing? Several of us have been engaged as tutors in various summer camps while yet  others have  spent the weeks so far attending professional workshops or completing programmes for their degrees. A very small percentage I dare say are on vacation. Still we are the envy of many a non – teacher as they lament the length of our summer vacation.

In retrospect, I recognise that most of my vacation is usually spent browsing teacher sites, classroom setup sites, teacher blogs and chatting with teacher friends on social media about …. you guessed it, teaching! This year is no different and over the remaining weeks, I’ll be engaged in planning for the upcoming term  and making resources. Such is the  life of a teacher. The only ones who understand that our job does not end at the end of a physical workday or when the term has ended are those  who feel the immediate effects: husbands, wives and children and significant others. It is they who realise that enough of our time is never dedicated to them. Sigh…

I’ve been browsing the internet, reading articles and feeling absolutely motivated to start preparing for the new term and since I’m not currently studying as I have been for the last few years………

I’ve also perused my OLD BLOG which  I started while doing my Masters and decided to re-open it. I have not yet made any new posts but will be doing so over the upcoming weeks. It concerns the hot topic of READING and would be used to discuss matters concerning same in my capacity as a trained READING SPECIALIST- hence the name.

You can visit my blog ‘LITERACY MATTERS’ on my site

I’m also reopening my CLASS WIKI and I am in the process of restructuring it to suit my new class in September. It is an interactive and collaborative site which showcases student work done in the classroom. I hope over the term it is motivational to fellow teachers. To view my class wiki click on the link below.
